Travel Lodge Worcester
The Travel Lodge, Worcester offers you the chance to stay in good quality reasonably priced accommodation that allows you the chance to really
explore this very ancient town. In fact, the area on which Worcester is sited has been occupied by people since Neolithic
times.
As well as being a Neolithic settlement, the Romans settled here and they remained in situ for more than 300 years. Originally, they
built a fort here to protect the route between Gloucester and Wroxeter but over the time, it became an industrial town. Here at the time
they had their own pottery kilns as well as iron smelting plants.
However after the Romans left things seem to have settled and it was not until late in the Medieval period that things begun to flourish once
more for the town of Worcester. The population increased and it was becoming known for the cloth that was being manufactured in the
town.
But what the town is really well known for today is its Porcelain ware. Although the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company factory still stands it
no longer produces any of the goods which it become known for. Today instead, it contains a museum and a chance to watch some of those who
have learnt the art of decorating porcelain.
As well as watching these skilled artisans at work, one is able to look at the different kinds of products that were made from when the
factory initially opened. Plus you are able to see items that are now still being produced today from kitchen and dining ware through to
more prestige and gift related ones.
