Travel Lodge Sunderland
The Travel Lodge, Sunderland is located on Low Row that is close to the centre of this town. From here, it provides you with the ideal
location to base yourself at and which you can then explore all that the area in the Tyne & Wear offers its visitors.
Certainly, this area of England has a varied and colorful history and you are sure to find something that will keep all members of the family
amused. One such attraction, which is popular with visitors to the area, is Souter Lighthouse. This is to be found in a place called
Whitburn, which is a short drive from Sunderland.
The lighthouse here has been operating since 1871 and was the most advanced of all lighthouses to be found in the UK at this time. It
was in fact the first of many that was to have the light at the top of tower powered by electricity, rather than oil. Here you have a
chance to explore what life was like for the lighthouse keeper and his family whilst they lived at the site.
However if the kids would like to do something a little more exciting during a visit to this town then a visit to the Sunderland Museum and
Winter Gardens should be included. Here there are plenty of exhibits along with displays that are interactive telling the history of this
town from prehistoric times up until today. Plus it provides you with a chance to look at some of the paintings produced by one of this
regions most well recognized artistes, L S Lowry.
