Travel Lodge Stansted
The Travel Lodge, Stansted is actually located in the small Essex village of Great Dunmow. It is from here you are only a short distance
from Stansted Airport where one can catch a flight to many places across continental Europe. However, it can also act as the ideal base for
being able to explore what the County of Essex and the City of London have to offer as well.
From this location you can travel on to towns in Essex such as Colchester, Chelmsford and Harlow if you wish. Moreover, if you want to
further your spread your wings a little you can catch a train from Stansted Railway Station, which will take you out to the Essex
coastline.
As for Stansted itself close by in the village of Stansted Mountfitchet, you will find Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village. This is
now classified as an historical monument and is protected by the Department of the Environment. Although there has been a settlement on
this site since the Iron Ages, the buildings you seen now are reconstructions of what a Norman one would have looked like during the 13th
Century.
This is a great place to spend a day or a few hours in the summer learning, more about what life was like at the time during the reign of the
Normans. In fact, this is now one of the most important of all the archaeological sites in the UK as well as being an extremely popular
tourist attraction.
