Travel Lodge Durham
The Travel Lodge, Durham is situated on the outskirts of this
town in the North of England. The city itself is considered
to be the jewel in the county's crown and is compact enough for one
to explore easily on foot.
Here in this city you will find a Norman Castle and Cathedral,
which have now been classed as world heritage sites. Both of
which have dominated the city for over nine centuries as they are
located high above the River Wear which runs through it.
The Cathedral alone is absolutely massive and is acclaimed to be
one of the finest buildings you are going to see anywhere in the
world today. The original church with its rib vaulting too
more than 40 years to build and was finally completed in
1133. It is a place where pilgrims and travelers from across
the globe come to in order to visit the Shrine of St
Cuthbert.
As for Durham Castle this was built in 1072 and is one of
England's largest and also best-preserved Norman buildings
today. For nearly Eight Hundred years this building was used
as the principle home for Durham's Prince Bishops and since 1836
has now housed the Foundation College of Durham University.
When visiting the castle why not spend some time at the Oriental
Museum that is the only one in Britain devoted to all things
relating to Oriental art and antiques. Plus also whilst here
visit the University's Botanic Gardens and here you can see and
smell plants that have been collected and grown here from around
the world.
