Travel Lodge Covent Garden
The Travel Lodge, Covent Garden is located close to the main
area where all the theatres in London are situated. In fact,
most of the major attractions that the capital city of England has
to offer are within easy walking distance of this hotel.
Within a quarter of a mile, you will find all the top theatres,
along with Soho and of course Covent Garden's Apple Market.
Plus only a short distance away about ½, a mile you will find the
main shopping area of Oxford Street.
The Apple Market in Covent Garden, London is an impressive glass
covered building which was designed by Inigo Jones. In the
heart of this, you will find the Piazza where there are plenty of
places to eat and shop. Also, all around the area you will
find plenty of entertainment being provided by the various
different street entertainers that the area has became famous
for.
The other major feature to be found in Covent Garden is the
Royal Opera House. This is the third building to have been
erected on this site and is not only home to the Royal Opera group
but also home to the Royal Ballet Company. Originally, when
the building was erected back in 1732 it was known as the Theatre
Royal. Both the theatre erected in 1732 and 1808 were
destroyed by fire and this final incantation was started back in
1856 and was designed by Edward Middleton Barry. However, the
building did full into disrepair, a £220 million refurbishment of
the building was undertaken, and what you see today was completed
in 2000.
