The other attraction, which is a favorite with those visiting the town of Penrith, is its castle.  This is located in Castle Park that is opposite to the railway station and forms a marvellous backdrop to the town's public park now.  Originally, only a tower was built on the site between 1397 and 1399 but over time, it was extended and improved, although today all that are left are the ruins and the moat that surrounded it.
